Womens Investment Landscape

Club ownership is fundamental to the workings of club football. The majority of semi-professional clubs and many fully professional clubs still rely on the owner(s) benefactor model as their strategy. The overlap between mens and womens football structures and how they share or stand alone is crucial to understand the development and trends in womens’ football investment. At the other end of the game, knowledge of the participation rates of girls and women, is fundamental to understanding how the game is developing and likely to grow in the future. Access to training facilities, the level and qualifications of coaching are also all key factors in investing in womens’ football.

Supporting Data

The UEFA Intelligence Centre utilises the club licensing network and Intelligence Centre Benchmarking survey covering approximately 700 clubs to build the only multi-league picture of club ownership profiles and trends. This is supplemented by desktop research, that often looks beyond Europe, to profile investors and investments in the European game. Ownership data can then be overlayed or combined with other measures such as financial support levels (equity injections or loan financing), facility investment levels or sporting performance, to drive insight. The database links numerous data sets including:

Full club ownership listings
Breakdown UEFA member association demographics
Breakdown participation rates (GRASS data) at national level
Training facility access and facilities
Stadium profiles
Youth development budgets and number of competitive squads
