Sporting Results & Competitive Balance
The UEFA Intelligence Centre focuses on strategic analysis, in general steering clear of detailed on-pitch data research. However a complete picture of domestic sporting results allows trends to be analysed and competition/club profiles to be understood, for strategic purposes, for example for use in competitive balance analysis or competition optimisation and structuring.
Supporting Data
The Intelligence Centre Domestic Results database currently covers all European domestic league tables over the last sixty years and all domestic match results over the last twenty years. Domestic cup results will be added in the near future. The databases also crucially include qualitative data aspects, from the simple: converting two points to three points for a win, to the more complex: mapping short or long seasons (move between summer to winter), the many changes in domestic landscape (USSR and Yugoslavia) and other non-standard results (mid-season bankruptcies, points deductions etc). Only by marrying these aspects to the pure result data can proper like-for-like comparisons and insights be created. The database links numerous data sets including:
Insights competitive balance domestic football
Match by match database (20 years)
Links sporting – finance results
Impacts UCL participation domestic leagues
League results and trends database (60 years)
